Net change in the stock of cash from the higher education institutions amounted to a cash surplus of R1 214 million for the 2014 financial year.

This statistical release provides information on the sources and uses of cash of higher education institutions for the financial years 2013 and 2014, classified economically and functionally. The net change in the stock of cash from the higher education institutions amounted to a cash surplus of R1 214 million for the 2014 financial year. The amount has increased from R113 million in 2013.
   
   
Major Influences

The major contributors to the cash amount of R1 214 million of the net change in the stock of cash of higher education institutions for the financial year 2014 are the cash receipts from operating activities, R60 598 million, (2013: R53 101 million); cash payments for operating activities, R50 068 million, (2013: R46 189 million); purchases of non-financial assets, R5 509 million, (2013: R5 284 million); sales of non-financial assets, R72 million, (2013: R443 million); net acquisition of financial assets other than cash, R4 269 million, (2013: R2 232 million); and net incurrence of liabilities, R390 million (2013: R48 million), (see Table A, p.4).
