Net change in the stock of cash from the higher education institutions amounted to a cash deficit of R113 million for the 2013 financial year.

This statistical release provides information on the sources and uses of cash of higher education institutions for the financial years 2012 and 2013, classified economically and functionally. The net change in the stock of cash from the higher education institutions amounted to a cash deficit of R113 million for the 2013 financial year. The amount has decreased from R123 million in 2012.
   
   
Major Influences

The major contributors to the cash deficit amount of R113 million of the net change in the stock of cash of higher education institutions for the financial year 2013 are the cash receipts from operating activities, R53 101 million, (2012: R48 623 million); cash payments for operating activities, R46 189 million, (2012: R41 361 million); purchases of non-financial assets, R5 284 million, (2012: R5 080 million); sales of non-financial assets, R443 million, (2012: R153 million); net acquisition of financial assets other than cash, R2 232 million, (2012: R2 256 million); and net incurrence of liabilities, R48 million (2012: R44 million), (see Table A, p.4).
