Net change in the stock of cash from higher education institutions amounted to R2 170 million for the 2008 financial year.

This statistical release provides information on the sources and uses of cash of higher education institutions for the financial years 2007 and 2008, classified economically and functionally. The net change in the stock of cash from higher education institutions amounted to R2 170 million for the 2008 fiscal year. The amount has increased from R1 480 million in 2007.

Major Influences

The major contributors to the amount of R2 170 million of the net change in the stock of cash of higher education institutions for the financial year 2008 are the cash receipts from operating activities, R33 620 million, (2007: R30 217 million); cash payments for operating activities, R29 303 million, (2007: R24 012 million); purchases of
non-financial assets, R3 034 million, (2007: R2 325 million); sales of non-financial assets, R28 million, (2007: R88 million); net acquisition of financial assets other than cash, -R758 million, (2007: R2 640 million); and net incurrence of liabilities,
R101 million (2007: R152 million), (see Table A, p.4).
