STATEMENT OF SOURCES AND USES OF CASH OF HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS 2006

This statistical release provides information on the sources and uses of cash of higher education institutions for the financial years 2005 and 2006, classified economically and functionally. The net change in the stock of cash from higher education institutions amounted to R900million for the 2006 financial year. The amount has decreased from  R1 686 million in 2005.
     
2. Major Influences

The major contributors to the amount of R900 million of net change in the stock of cash of higher education institutions for the financial year 2006 are the cash receipts from operating activities, R26 925 million (2005: R24 499 million); cash payments for operating activities, R21 316 million, (2005: R18 834 million); purchases of non-financial assets, R1 557 million, (2005: R1 399 million); sales of non-financial assets, R37 million (2005: R80 million); net acquisition of financial assets other than cash,    R3 091 million (2005: R2 411 million); and net incurrence of liabilities, -R98 million (2005: -R275 million), (see Table A, p.4).
