This statistical release provides information on the sources and uses of cash of extra-budgetary accounts and funds for the fiscal year 2007/2008 and 2008/2009, classified economically and functionally. The net change in the stock of cash from the national and provincial extra-budgetary accounts and funds amounted to R1 500 million for the 2008/2009 fiscal year. The amount has decreased from R3 358 million in 2007/2008.

1. Major Influences

The major contributors to the amount of R1 500 million of net change in the stock of cash of extra-budgetary accounts and funds for the fiscal year 2008/2009 are the cash receipts from operating activities, R105 257 million (2007/2008: R88 674 million); cash payments for operating activities, R81 657 million, (2007/2008: R69 040 million); purchases of non-financial assets, R15 023 million, (2007/2008: R6 264 million); sales of non-financial assets, R236 million (2007/2008: R148 million); net acquisition of financial assets other than cash, R17 290 million (2007/2008: R10 289 million); and net incurrence of liabilities, R9 977 million (2007/2008: R128 million), (see Table A, p.5).
