The total income for the personal services industry in 2004 was R107 950 million. The largest contributor to the total income was "health and social work" (R45 287 million or 42,0%), followed by recreational, cultural and sporting activities (R28 748 million or 26,6%), education (R26 249 million or 24,3%), other services activities (R3 148 million or 2,9%), activities of membership organisation (R3 127 million or 2,9%), and sewage and refuse disposal, sanitation and similar activities (R1 391 million or 1,3%).

The largest contribution to total income was by "large" enterprises (R74 014 million or 68,6%), followed by "small" enterprises (R17 719 million or 16,4%), "medium" enterprises (R8 931 million or 8,3%), and "micro" enterprises (R7 286 million or 6,7%).
