Freight transportation


Income from freight transportation decreased by 7,7% in the third quarter of 2020 compared with the third quarter of 2019. The main negative contributors to this decrease were:

  • manufactured food, beverages and tobacco products (-24,2% and contributing -2,7 percentage points);
  • ‘other’ freight (-8,6% and contributing -1,5 percentage points); and
  • containers (-19,8% and contributing -1,1% percentage points).

Seasonally adjusted payload increased by 19,8% in the third quarter of 2020 compared with the second quarter of 2020. Road freight increased by 17,6% (contributing 13,5 percentage points) and rail freight increased by 27,2% (contributing 6,4 percentage points).

Passenger transportation 

The number of passenger journeys decreased by 54,0% in September 2020 compared with September 2019. The corresponding income decreased by 45,5% over the same period.

 

Seasonally adjusted passenger journeys increased by 47,5% in the third quarter of 2020 compared with the second quarter of 2020. Road passenger journeys increased by 45,2% (contributing 44,9 percentage points) and rail passenger journeys increased by 404,5% (contributing 2,4 percentage points).
