Key findings: P7162 - Land transport survey, July 2020

Income from freight transportation decreased by 15,2% in the three months ended July 2020 compared with the three months ended July 2019. The main contributors to this decrease were:

  • ‘other’ freight (-19,0% and contributing -3,4 percentage points);
  • primary mining and quarrying products (-8,8% and contributing -3,2 percentage points).
  • manufactured food, beverages and tobacco products (-19,1% and contributing -2,1 percentage points);
  • basic metals and fabricated metal products (-59,1% and contributing -2,0 percentage points); and
  • containers (-22,4% and contributing -1,2% percentage points).

Seasonally adjusted payload decreased by 0,7% in the three months ended July 2020 compared with the previous three months. Road freight decreased by 2,6% (contributing -2,0 percentage points) while rail freight increased by 5,3% (contributing 1,3 percentage points).

Passenger transportation 

The number of passenger journeys decreased by 64,8% in July 2020 compared with July 2019. The corresponding income decreased by 54,2% over the same period.

 

Seasonally adjusted passenger journeys decreased by 44,8% in the three months ended July 2020 compared with the previous three months. Road passenger journeys decreased by 29,9% (contributing -23,2 percentage points) and rail passenger journeys decreased by 97,0% (contributing -21,6 percentage points).
