Freight transportation

The volume of goods transported (payload) decreased by 3,1% in February 2019 compared with February 2018. The corresponding income increased by 0,2% over the same period.

Income from freight transportation increased by 3,8% in the three months ended February 2019 compared with the three months ended February 2018. The main contributor to this increase was primary mining and quarrying products (9,3% and contributing 3,3 percentage points).

Seasonally adjusted payload decreased by 2,7% in the three months ended February 2019 compared with the previous three months. Road freight decreased by 2,4% (contributing -1,9 percentage points) and rail freight decreased by 3,7% (contributing -0,8 of a percentage point).

Passenger transportation

The number of passenger journeys decreased by 14,1% in February 2019 compared with February 2018. The corresponding income decreased by 3,9% over the same period.

Seasonally adjusted passenger journeys decreased by 1,0% in the three months ended February 2019 compared with the previous three months. Road passenger journeys decreased by 4,2% (contributing -2,4 percentage points) while rail passenger journeys increased by 3,6% (contributing 1,5 percentage points).
