Key findings: P7162 - Land transport survey, November 2018

The volume of goods transported (payload) increased by 13,8% in November 2018 compared with November 2017. The corresponding income increased by 14,2% over the same period.

Income from freight transportation increased by 10,1% in the three months ended November 2018 compared with the three months ended November 2017. The main positive contributors to this increase were:

  • primary mining and quarrying products (17,7% and contributing 6,1 percentage points);
  • agriculture and forestry primary products (16,9% and contributing 1,3 percentage points); and
  • containers (21,9% and contributing 1,0 percentage point).
  • Seasonally adjusted payload increased by 4,6% in the three months ended November 2018 compared with the previous three months. Road freight increased by 5,2% (contributing 4,0 percentage points) and rail freight increased by 2,5% (contributing 0,6 of a percentage point).

    Passenger transportation

    The number of passenger journeys decreased by 6,2% in November 2018 compared with November 2017. The corresponding income increased by 2,3% over the same period.

    Seasonally adjusted passenger journeys decreased by 7,4% in the three months ended November 2018 compared with the previous three months. Rail passenger journeys decreased by 17,0% (contributing -7,9 percentage points) while road passenger journeys increased by 0,8% (contributing 0,4 of a percentage point).
