Freight transportation

The volume of goods transported (payload) decreased by 7,6% in December 2024 compared with December 2023. The corresponding income decreased by 6,8% over the same period.

 

Income from freight transportation decreased by 6,2% in the fourth quarter of 2024 compared with the fourth quarter of 2023. The main negative contributors to this decrease were:

·      other’ freight (-21,1% and contributing -4,4 percentage points);

·      primary mining and quarrying products (-4,1% and contributing -1,4 percentage points); and

·      agriculture and forestry primary products (-20,3% and contributing -1,3 percentage points).


Seasonally adjusted payload decreased by 1,4% in the fourth quarter of 2024 compared with the third quarter of 2024. Road freight decreased by 1,6% (contributing -1,3 percentage points) and rail freight decreased by 0,7% (contributing -0,1 of a percentage point).

Passenger transportation

The number of passenger journeys increased by 2,8% in December 2024 compared with December 2023. The corresponding income decreased by 4,5% over the same period.


Seasonally adjusted passenger journeys increased by 0,8% in the fourth quarter of 2024 compared with the third quarter of 2024. Rail passenger journeys increased by 3,0% (contributing 0,8 of a percentage point) while road passenger journeys remained unchanged.
