Freight transportation

The volume of goods transported (payload) decreased by 10,2% in October 2024 compared with October 2023. The corresponding income decreased by 5,8% over the same period.

 

Income from freight transportation decreased by 7,0% in the three months ended October 2024 compared with the three months ended October 2023. The largest negative contributor to this decrease was ‘other’ freight (-27,7% and contributing -6,6 percentage points).


Seasonally adjusted payload decreased by 3,0% in the three months ended October 2024 compared with the previous three months. Road freight decreased by 2,7% (contributing -2,2 percentage points) and rail freight decreased by 4,4% (contributing -0,8 of a percentage point).

Passenger transportation

The number of passenger journeys increased by 14,2% in October 2024 compared with October 2023. The corresponding income increased by 2,3% over the same period.


Seasonally adjusted passenger journeys increased by 4,2% in the three months ended October 2024 compared with the previous three months. Rail passenger journeys increased by 21,0% (contributing 4,4 percentage points) while road passenger journeys decreased by 0,3% (contributing -0,2 of a percentage point).
