Freight transportation


The volume of goods transported (payload) decreased by 6,4% in February 2021 compared with February 2020. The corresponding income decreased by 4,7% over the same period.


Income from freight transportation decreased by 5,4% in the three months ended February 2021 compared with the three months ended February 2020The main negative contributors to this decrease were:

  • manufactured food, beverages and tobacco products (-21,9% and contributing -2,6 percentage points); and
  • primary mining and quarrying products (-3,3% and contributing -1,2 percentage points).

Seasonally adjusted payload increased by 0,3% in the three months ended February 2021 compared with the previous three months. Road freight increased by 2,2% (contributing 1,7 percentage points) while rail freight decreased by 5,9% (contributing -1,4 percentage points).

Passenger transportation 

The number of passenger journeys decreased by 52,1% in February 2021 compared with February 2020. The corresponding income decreased by 36,4% over the same period.

 

Seasonally adjusted passenger journeys increased by 8,2% in the three months ended February 2021 compared with the previous three months. Rail passenger journeys increased by 95,6% (contributing 4,2 percentage points) and road passenger journeys increased by 4,1% (contributing 4,0 percentage points).
