Key findings: P7162 - Land transport survey, June 2018

The volume of goods transported (payload) increased by 3,3% in June 2018 compared with June 2017. The corresponding income decreased by 2,8% over the same period.

Income from freight transportation increased by 2,5% in the second quarter of 2018 compared with the second quarter of June 2017. The main contributor to this increase was primary mining and quarrying products (5,3% and contributing 1,9 percentage points).
 
Seasonally adjusted payload decreased by 2,7% in the second quarter of 2018 compared with the previous quarter. Road freight decreased by 3,3% (contributing -2,5 percentage points) while rail freight decreased by 0,8% (contributing -0,2 of a percentage point).

Passenger transportation

The number of passenger journeys decreased by 15,3% in June 2018 compared with June 2017. The corresponding income decreased by 4,9% over the same period.

Seasonally adjusted passenger journeys decreased by 7,0% in the second quarter of 2018 compared with the previous quarter. Road passenger journeys decreased by 15,5% (contributing -8,6 percentage points) while rail passenger journeys increased by 3,7% (contributing 1,6 percentage points).
