Freight transportation

The volume of goods transported (payload) increased by 5,4% in May 2016 compared with May 2015. The corresponding income increased by 6,5% over the same period.

Income from freight transportation increased by 2,6% in the three months ended May 2016 compared with the three months ended May 2015. The main contributors to this increase were:

  • primary mining and quarrying products (8,5% and contributing 2,8 percentage points); and
  • manufactured food, beverages and tobacco products (21,4% and contributing 2,5 percentage points).

Passenger transportation

The number of passenger journeys decreased by 17,9% in May 2016 compared with May 2015. The corresponding income increased by 1,9% over the same period
