Key findings: P7162 - Land transport survey, June 2014

Freight transportation

The volume of goods transported (payload) increased by 7,4% in June 2014 compared with June 2013. The corresponding income increased by 13,3% over the same period.

Income from freight transportation increased by 10,2% in the second quarter of 2014 compared with the second quarter of 2013. The main contributors to this increase were:

  • primary mining and quarrying products (21,2% and contributing 6,7 percentage points); and
  • ‘other’ freight  (11,2% and contributing 1,2 percentage points).

Passenger transportation

The number of passenger journeys decreased by 2,9% in June 2014 compared with June 2013. The corresponding income increased by 6,8% over the same period.
