Freight transportation

The volume of goods transported (payload) decreased by 0,4% in March 2014 compared with March 2013. The corresponding income increased by 6,7% over the same period.

Income from freight transportation increased by 7,0% in the first quarter of 2014 compared with the first quarter of 2013. The main contributors to this increase were:

  • 'other' freight  (30,8% and contributing 2,6 percentage points);
  • agriculture and forestry primary products (17,6% and contributing 1,1 percentage points);
  • electrical machinery, transport machinery and equipment (39,4% and contributing 0,8 of a percentage point); and
  • primary mining and quarrying products (2,4% and contributing 0,8 of a percentage point).

Passenger transportation

The number of passenger journeys increased by 1,2% in March 2014 compared with March 2013. The corresponding income increased by 9,8% over the same period.
