Freight transportation

The volume of goods transported (payload) decreased by 3,1% in June 2013 compared with June 2012. The corresponding income increased by 6,6% over the same period.

Income from freight transportation increased by 12,5% in the second quarter of 2013 compared with the second quarter of 2012. The main contributors to this increase were:

  • primary mining and quarrying products (13,7% and contributing 4,2 percentage points);
  • manufactured food, beverages and tobacco products (14,1% and contributing 2,0 percentage points);
  • `other` freight  (17,7% and contributing 1,8 percentage points); and
  • agriculture and forestry primary products (14,3% and contributing 1,0 percentage point).

Passenger transportation

The number of passenger journeys increased by 3,5% in June 2013 compared with June 2012. The corresponding income increased by 9,0% over the same period.
