Income from freight transportation

The income from freight transportation for the three months ended October 2011 increased by 16,6% compared with the three months ended October 2010. Income from freight transportation for October 2011 increased by 15,8% compared with October 2010. The volume of goods transported (payload) for October 2011 increased by 9,1% compared with October 2010.

The year-on-year increase of 16,6% in income from freight transportation for the three months ended October 2011 was driven largely by primary mining and quarrying products (33,8% and contributing 10,3 percentage points), followed by other freight (15,8% and contributing 1,4 percentage points) and manufactured food, beverages and tobacco products (9,5% and contributing 1,4 percentage points).

Income from passenger transportation

The income from passenger transportation for the three months ended October 2011 increased by 13,0% compared with the three months ended October 2010. Income from passenger transportation for October 2011 increased by 9,3% compared with October 2010, while the number of passengers increased by 2,8% over this period.

The main contributor to the year-on-year increase of 13,0% in income from passenger transportation for the three months ended October 2011 was road passenger transportation (13,1% and contributing 10,2 percentage points), followed by railway passenger transportation (12,8% and contributing 2,9 percentage points).
