Income from freight transportation

The income from freight transportation for the first quarter of 2011 increased by 6,0% compared with the first quarter of 2010. Income from freight transportation for March 2011 increased by 6,2% compared with March 2010. The volume of goods transported (payload) for March 2011 increased by 2,6% compared with March 2010.

The increase of 6,0% in income from freight transportation for the first quarter of 2011 compared with the first quarter of 2010 was driven largely by primary mining and quarrying products (15,9% and contributing 4,9 percentage points), followed by motor vehicles, parts and accessories (47,5% and contributing 0,9 of a percentage point).

Income from passenger transportation

The income from passenger transportation for the first quarter of 2011 increased by 15,8% compared with the first quarter of 2010. Income from passenger transportation for March 2011 increased by 18,7% compared with March 2010. The number of passengers for March 2011 decreased by 9,6% compared with March 2010.

The main contributor to the increase of 15,8% in income from passenger transportation for the first quarter of  2011 compared with the first quarter of 2010 was road passenger transportation (23,7% and contributing 17,3 percentage points). However, this increase was counteracted by a decrease in railway passenger transportation (-5,7% and contributing -1,5 percentage points).
