Income from freight transportation

The income from freight transportation for the three months ended January 2011 increased by 4,4% compared with the three months ended January 2010. Income from freight transportation for January 2011 increased by 0,7% compared with January 2010. The volume of goods transported (payload) for January 2011 decreased by 2,5% compared with January 2010.

The increase of 4,4% in income from freight transportation for the three months ended January 2011 compared with the three months ended January 2010 was driven largely by primary mining and quarrying products (7,2% and contributing 2,1 percentage points), commercial products (33,1% and contributing 0,8 of a percentage point) and motor vehicles, parts and accessories (37,8% and contributing 0,7 of a percentage point).

Income from passenger transportation

The income from passenger transportation for the three months ended January 2011 increased by 14,9% compared with the three months ended January 2010. Income from passenger transportation for January 2011 increased by 17,4% compared with January 2010. The number of passengers for January 2011 decreased by 16,8% compared with January 2010.

The main contributor to the increase of 14,9% in income from passenger transportation for the three months ended January 2011 compared with the three months ended January 2010 was road passenger transportation (21,0% and contributing 15,7 percentage points). However, this increase was counteracted by a decrease in railway passenger transportation (-3,0% and contributing -0,8 of a percentage point).
