Income from freight transportation

The income from freight transportation for the three months ended April 2010 increased by 11,7% compared with the three months ended April 2009. Income from freight transportation for April 2010 increased by 9,8% compared with April 2009. The volume of goods transported (payload) for April 2010 increased by 5,4% compared with April 2009.

The increase of 11,7% in income from freight transportation for the three months ended April 2010 compared with the three months ended April 2009 was mainly driven by primary mining and quarrying products (34,4% and contributing 9,0 percentage points), followed by basic metal and fabricated metal products (26,0% and contributing 1,4 percentage points) and non-metallic products (34,5% and contributing 1,3 percentage points).

Income from passenger transportation

The income from passenger transportation for the three months ended April 2010 increased by 1,1% compared with the three months ended April 2009. Income from passenger transportation for April 2010 increased by 8,3% compared with April 2009. The number of passengers for April 2010 decreased by 7,5% compared with April 2009.

The main contributor to the increase of 1,1% in income from passenger transportation for the three months ended April 2010 compared with the three months ended April 2009 was railway passenger transportation (8,4% and contributing 2,1 percentage points). However, this increase was counteracted by a decrease in road passenger transportation (-1,3% and contributing -1,0 percentage point).
