Income from freight transportation

 

The income from freight transportation for the three months ended February 2010 increased by 9,8% compared with the three months ended February 2009. Income from freight transportation for February 2010 increased by 10,9% compared with February 2009. The volume of goods transported (payload) for February 2010 increased by 3,1% compared with February 2009.

 

The main contributors to the increase of 9,8% in income from freight transportation for the three months ended February 2010 compared with the three months ended February 2009 were primary mining and quarrying products (35,0% and contributing 8,6 percentage points) and basic metals and fabricated metal products (41,2% and contributing 1,9 percentage points).

 

Income from passenger transportation

 

The income from passenger transportation for the three months ended February 2010 increased by 4,1% compared with the three months ended February 2009. Income from passenger transportation for February 2010 decreased by 2,1% compared with February 2009. However, the number of passengers for February 2010 increased by 3,4% compared with February 2009, due to more passengers being transported by rail.

 

The main contributor to the increase of 4,1% in income from passenger transportation for the three months ended February 2010 compared with the three months ended February 2009 was road passenger transportation (5,9% and contributing 4,4 percentage points).
