Year-on-year percentage change in food and beverages income at constant 2015 prices by type of income


Measured in real terms (constant 2015 prices), total income generated by the food and beverages industry decreased by 52,6% in July 2020 compared with July 2019. The largest decreases were recorded for:

  • bar sales (-95,1%); and
  • ‘other’ income (-62,6%).

In July 2020, the main contributors to the 52,6% year-on-year decrease were:

  • restaurants and coffee shops (-75,9% and contributing -39,1 percentage points); and
  • catering services (-61,9% and contributing -9,2 percentage points).


Food and beverages income at constant 2015 prices for the latest three months by type of enterprise

 

Total income decreased by 66,9% in the three months ended July 2020 compared with the three months ended July 2019. The main contributors to this decrease were:

  • restaurants and coffee shops (-87,1% and contributing -44,7 percentage points); and
  • catering services (-61,0% and contributing -9,2 percentage points).

 

Seasonally adjusted food and beverages income increased by 11,6% in July 2020 compared with June 2020. This followed month-on-month changes of 239,2% in June 2020 and 175,7% in May 2020.
