Year-on-year percentage change in food and beverages income at constant 2015 prices by type of income

 

Measured in real terms (constant 2015 prices), total income generated by the food and beverages industry increased by 1,8% in January 2020 compared with January 2019. Food sales grew by 2,6%.

In January 2020, positive contributors to the 1,8% year-on-year increase were:

  • takeaway and fast-food outlets (7,2% and contributing 2,2 percentage points); and

  • restaurants and coffee shops (3,6% and contributing 1,9 percentage points).

 

Food and beverages income at constant 2015 prices for the latest three months by type of enterprise

 

Total income increased by 0,9% in the three months ended January 2020 compared with the three months ended January 2019. The main contributor to this increase was takeaway and fast-food outlets (4,2% and contributing 1,3 percentage points).

 

Seasonally adjusted food and beverages income decreased by 2,0% month-on-month in January 2020. Negative month-on-month growth rates were recorded for:

  • catering services (-7,7%); and

  • restaurants and coffee shops (-2,0%).
