Year-on-year percentage change in food and beverages income at constant 2015 prices by type of income


Measured in real terms (constant 2015 prices), total income generated by the food and beverages industry increased by 2,4% in 2019 compared with 2018.


In December 2019 total income increased by 0,7% year-on-year. Food sales grew by 2,0%.

In December 2019, positive contributors to the 0,7% year-on-year increase were:

  • restaurants and coffee shops (2,1% and contributing 1,2 percentage points); and
  • takeaway and fast-food outlets (2,8% and contributing 0,9 of a percentage point).


Food and beverages income at constant 2015 prices for the latest three months by type of enterprise


Total income decreased by 0,1% in the fourth quarter of 2019 compared with the fourth quarter of 2018. Restaurants and coffee shops decreased by 1,7% (contributing -0,9 of a percentage point) while takeaway and fast-food outlets increased by 2,6% (contributing 0,8 of a percentage point) over this period.

 

Seasonally adjusted food and beverages income increased by 0,3% month-on-month in December 2019. Positive month-on-month growth rates were recorded for:

  • restaurants and coffee shops (5,6%); and
  • takeaway and fast-food outlets (0,1%).
