Key findings: P6420 - Food and beverages, November 2019

Measured in real terms (constant 2015 prices), total income generated by the food and beverages industry increased by 0,5% in November 2019 compared with November 2018. Positive annual growth rates were recorded for:

  • ‘other’ income (18,7%); and
  • bar sales (9,9%).

In November 2019, positive annual growth rates were recorded for:

  • catering services (11,7% and contributing 1,7 percentage points); and
  • takeaway and fast-food outlets (5,1% and contributing 1,6 percentage points).

 

Food and beverages income at constant 2015 prices for the latest three months by type of enterprise

 

Total income decreased by 0,3% in the three months ended November 2019 compared with the three months ended November 2018. Restaurants and coffee shops decreased by 2,8% (contributing -1,5 percentage points) while catering services increased by 3,7% (contributing 0,6 of a percentage point) and takeaway and fast-food outlets increased by 1,8% (contributing 0,6 of a percentage point) over this period.

 

Seasonally adjusted food and beverages income increased by 1,6% month-on-month in November 2019. Positive month-on-month growth rates were recorded for:

  • catering services (8,4%); and
  • takeaway and fast-food outlets (1,6%).
