Year-on-year percentage change in food and beverages income at constant 2015 prices by type of income

Measured in real terms (constant 2015 prices), total income generated by the food and beverages industry decreased by 2,2% in October 2019 compared with October 2018. Negative annual growth rates were recorded for:

  • 'other' income (-9,4%); and
  • food sales (-2,4%).

In October 2019, the largest negative annual growth rates were recorded for:

  • restaurants and coffee shops (-3,1% and contributing -1,6 percentage points); and
  • catering services (-2,8% and contributing -0,4 of a percentage point).

Food and beverages income at constant 2015 prices for the latest three months by type of enterprise

Total income decreased by 0,2% in the three months ended October 2019 compared with the three months ended October 2018. Restaurants and coffee shops decreased by 1,6% (contributing -0,8 of a percentage point) while takeaway and fast-food outlets increased by 1,5% (contributing 0,5 of a percentage point) over this period.

Seasonally adjusted food and beverages income decreased by 1,4% month-on-month in October 2019. Negative month-on-month growth rates were recorded for:

  • restaurants and coffee shops (-2,2%); and
  • takeaway and fast-food outlets (-1,0%).
