Year-on-year percentage change in food and beverages income at constant 2015 prices by type of income

Measured in real terms (constant 2015 prices), total income generated by the food and beverages industry increased by 1,1% in September 2019 compared with September 2018. Positive annual growth rates were recorded for:

  • bar sales (2,7%); and
  • food sales (1,5%).

In September 2019, the largest annual growth rate was recorded for restaurants and coffee shops (1,8% and contributing 0,9 of a percentage point).

Total income increased by 0,3% in the third quarter of 2019 compared with the third quarter of 2018. Takeaway and fast-food outlets increased by 2,3% (contributing 0,8 of a percentage point) while restaurants and coffee shops decreased by 1,2% (contributing -0,6 of a percentage point) over this period.


Seasonally adjusted food and beverages income increased by 0,9% month-on-month in September 2019. Restaurants and coffee shops grew by 4,0% while catering services fell by 5,5% over this period.
