Year-on-year percentage change in food and beverages income at constant 2015 prices by type of income

Measured in real terms (constant 2015 prices), total income generated by the food and beverages industry decreased by 0,6% in June 2019 compared with June 2018. The largest negative annual growth rates were recorded for:

  • ‘other’ income (-8,6%); and
  • bar sales (-2,1%).

In June 2019, year-on-year decreases were recorded for:

  • restaurants and coffee shops (-3,0% and contributing -1,5 percentage points); and
  • catering services (-3,8% and contributing -0,5 of a percentage point).
Takeaway and fast-food outlets increased by 3,6% (contributing 1,4 percentage points).

Food and beverages income at constant 2015 prices for the latest three months by type of enterprise

Total income increased by 1,8% in the second quarter of 2019 compared with the second quarter of 2018. The main contributor to this increase was takeaway and fast-food outlets (5,6% and contributing 2,0 percentage points).

Seasonally adjusted food and beverages income was flat between May 2019 and June 2019. Catering services decreased by 2,2% month-on-month in June 2019. Takeaway and fast food outlets increased by 0,4% and restaurants and coffee shops increased by 0,3% over the same period.
