Year-on-year percentage change in food and beverages income at constant 2015 prices by type of income

Measured in real terms (constant 2015 prices), total income generated by the food and beverages industry increased by 2,8% in 2018 compared with 2017.

In December 2018 total income increased by 5,9% year-on-year. Food sales grew by 7,0%.

The largest annual growth rate in December 2018 was recorded for restaurants and coffee shops (11,0% and contributing 5,6 percentage points).

Food and beverages income at constant 2015 prices for the latest three months by type of enterprise

Total income increased by 4,8% in the fourth quarter of 2018 compared with the fourth quarter of 2017. The main contributor to this increase was restaurants and coffee shops (6,7% and contributing 3,4 percentage points).

Seasonally adjusted food and beverages income decreased by 1,4% month-on-month in December 2018. Negative month-on-month growth rates were recorded for:

  • takeaway and fast-food outlets (-5,1%); and
  • restaurants and coffee shops (-1,1%).
