Key findings: P6420 - Food and beverages, September 2024

Measured in real terms (constant 2019 prices), total income generated by the food and beverages industry decreased by 5,4% in September 2024 compared with September 2023. The largest negative annual growth rates were recorded for ‘other’ income (-23,0%) and bar sales (-11,5%).

In September 2024, the main contributors to the 5,4% year-on-year decrease were restaurants and coffee shops (‑6,6% and contributing -3,2 percentage points) and takeaway and fast-food outlets (-4,3% and contributing -1,7 percentage points).

Total income decreased by 3,0% in the third quarter of 2024 compared with the third quarter of 2023. The main negative contributor to this decrease was restaurants and coffee shops (-5,2% and contributing -2,5 percentage points). The positive contributor was catering services (4,0% and contributing 0,5 of a percentage point).

Seasonally adjusted income for the food and beverages industry decreased by 1,6% in September 2024 compared with August 2024. This followed month-on-month changes of 3,0% in August 2024 and -3,7% in July 2024.
