Year-on-year percentage change in food and beverages income at constant 2019 prices by type of income

 

Measured in real terms (constant 2019 prices), total income generated by the food and beverages industry decreased by 4,6% in April 2024 compared with April 2023. The highest negative annual growth rates were recorded for ‘other’ income (-15,4%) and bar sales (-9,2%).

In April 2024, the largest negative contributors to the 4,6% year-on-year decrease were restaurants and coffee shops (-4,6% and contributing -2,4 percentage points) and takeaway and fast-food outlets (-5,2% and contributing -1,9 percentage points).

 

Food and beverages income at constant 2019 prices for the latest three months by type of enterprise

 

Total income increased by 1,2% in the three months ended April 2024 compared with the three months ended April 2023. The main contributor to this increase was restaurants and coffee shops (2,4% and contributing 1,3 percentage points).

 

Seasonally adjusted income for the food and beverages industry decreased by 4,0% in April 2024 compared with March 2024. This followed month-on-month changes of -2,0% in March 2024 and 6,8% in February 2024.
