Measured in real terms (constant 2019 prices), total income generated by the food and beverages industry decreased by 0,6% in October 2023 compared with October 2022. Food sales recorded the only negative annual growth rate (-2,0%).

In October 2023, the main negative contributor to the 0,6% year-on-year decrease was takeaway and fast-food outlets (-2,6% and contributing -0,9 of a percentage point).

 

Food and beverages income at constant 2019 prices for the latest three months by type of enterprise

 

Total income increased by 1,0% in the three months ended October 2023 compared with the three months ended October 2022. Positive contributors to this increase were:

  • takeaway and fast-food outlets (2,8% and contributing 1,0 percentage point); and
  • catering services (4,3% and contributing 0,5 of a percentage point).


Seasonally adjusted income for the food and beverages industry decreased by 4,0% in October 2023 compared with September 2023. This followed month-on-month changes of 5,1% in September 2023 and -4,6% in August 2023.
