Year-on-year percentage change in food and beverages income at constant 2015 prices by type of income

 

Measured in real terms (constant 2015 prices), total income generated by the food and beverages industry increased by 13,6% in March 2022 compared with March 2021. Positive annual growth rates were recorded for income from food sales (17,1%) and ‘other’ income (9,6%).

In March 2022, the main contributors to the 13,6% year-on-year increase were:

  • takeaway and fast-food outlets (21,8% and contributing 7,0 percentage points); and
  • restaurants and coffee shops (8,9% and contributing 4,7 percentage points).

 

Food and beverages income at constant 2015 prices for the latest three months by type of enterprise

 

Total income increased by 23,9% in the first quarter of 2022 compared with the first quarter of 2021. The main contributors to this increase were:

  • restaurants and coffee shops (23,2% and contributing 11,7 percentage points); and
  • takeaway and fast-food outlets (25,2% and contributing 8,7 percentage points).

 

Seasonally adjusted income for the food and beverages industry increased by 5,0% in March 2022 compared with February 2022. This followed month-on-month changes of -0,3% in February 2022 and 3,4% in January 2022.
