Year-on-year percentage change in food and beverages income at constant 2015 prices by type of income

 

Measured in real terms (constant 2015 prices), total income generated by the food and beverages industry increased by 23,4% in September 2021 compared with September 2020. The largest annual growth rate was recorded for food sales (27,1%). ‘Other’ income decreased by 16,2%.

In September 2021, the main contributors to the 23,4% year-on-year increase were:

  • restaurants and coffee shops (26,1% and contributing 12,9 percentage points); and
  • takeaway and fast-food outlets (28,0% and contributing 9,5 percentage points).

 

Food and beverages income at constant 2015 prices for the latest three months by type of enterprise

 

Total income increased by 34,8% in the third quarter of 2021 compared with the third quarter of 2020. The main contributors to this increase were:

  • restaurants and coffee shops (54,6% and contributing 23,1 percentage points); and
  • takeaway and fast-food outlets (25,6% and contributing 10,2 percentage points).

 

Seasonally adjusted income for the food and beverages industry increased by 2,8% in September 2021 compared with August 2021. This followed month-on-month changes of 25,0% in August 2021 and -20,9% in July 2021.
