Measured in real terms (constant 2015 prices), total income generated by the food and beverages industry increased by 573,3% in May 2021 compared with May 2020. The largest positive annual growth rate was recorded for food sales (562,5%).

In May 2021, restaurants and coffee shops had the highest annual growth rate (2 885,5%).

Total income increased by 166,7% in the three months ended May 2021 compared with the three months ended May 2020. The main positive contributors to this increase were:

  • restaurants and coffee shops (205,1% and contributing 90,2 percentage points); and
  • takeaway and fast-food outlets (213,6% and contributing 71,6 percentage points).

 

Seasonally adjusted income for the food and beverages industry increased by 6,1% in May 2021 compared with April 2021. This followed month-on-month changes of 6,9% in April 2021 and 4,5% in March 2021.
