Year-on-year percentage change in food and beverages income at constant 2015 prices by type of income

Measured in real terms (constant 2015 prices), total income generated by the food and beverages industry decreased by 36,1% in January 2021 compared with January 2020. The largest decrease was recorded for bar sales (-77,1%).

In January 2021, the main contributors to the 36,1% year-on-year decrease were:

  • restaurants and coffee shops (-49,5% and contributing -27,0 percentage points); and
  • catering services (-50,1% and contributing -6,4 percentage points).

Food and beverages income at constant 2015 prices for the latest three months by type of enterprise

Total income decreased by 30,0% in the three months ended January 2021 compared with the three months ended January 2020. The main contributors to this decrease were:

  • restaurants and coffee shops (-36,7% and contributing -19,8 percentage points); and
  • catering services (-47,4% and contributing -6,4 percentage points).

Seasonally adjusted food and beverages income decreased by 14,5% in January 2021 compared with December 2020. This followed month-on-month changes of -2,2% in December 2020 and 12,8% in November 2020.
