Measured in real terms (constant 2015 prices), total income generated by the food and beverages industry increased by 0,1% in July 2018 compared with July 2017. Food sales grew by 0,6%.

In July 2018, takeaway and fast-food outlets grew by 2,8% (contributing 1,0 percentage point) while restaurants and coffee shops declined by 1,6% (contributing -0,8 of a percentage point) year-on-year.

Food and beverages income at constant 2015 prices for the latest three months by type of enterprise

Total income increased by 3,4% in the three months ended July 2018 compared with the three months ended July 2017. Positive contributors to this increase were:

  • takeaway and fast-food outlets (5,2% and contributing 1,9 percentage points); an
  •  restaurants and coffee shops (3,2% and contributing 1,6 percentage points).

Seasonally adjusted food and beverages income decreased by 0,6% month-on-month in July 2018. Negative growth rates were recorded for:

  • catering services (-2,4%); and
  •  restaurants and coffee shops (-1,1%).
