Measured in real terms (constant 2015 prices), total income generated by the food and beverages industry increased by 0,1% in April 2018 compared with April 2017. Food sales grew by 1,0%.

In April 2018, restaurants and coffee shops grew by 4,0% (contributing 2,0 percentage points) while takeaway and fast-food outlets declined by 4,4% (contributing -1,6 percentage points).

Food and beverages income at constant 2015 prices for the latest three months by type of enterprise

Total income increased by 2,6% in the three months ended April 2018 compared with the three months ended April 2017. Positive contributors to this increase were:

  • restaurants and coffee shops (3,2% and contributing 1,7 percentage points); and
  • takeaway and fast-food outlets (2,9% and contributing 1,0 percentage point).

Seasonally adjusted food and beverages income increased by 0,6% month-on-month in April 2018. Positive month-on-month growth rates were recorded for:

  • restaurants and coffee shops (1,9%); and
  • takeaway and fast-food outlets (1,0%).
