Year-on-year percentage change in food and beverages income at constant 2015 prices by type of income

Measured in real terms (constant 2015 prices), total income generated by the food and beverages industry increased by 0,5% in 2017 compared with 2016.

In December 2017 total income decreased by 2,1% year-on-year. The largest negative annual growth rate was recorded for 'other' income (-12,3%).

Negative annual growth rates in December 2017 were recorded for restaurants and coffee shops (-3,0% and contributing -1,6 percentage points) and takeaway and fast-food outlets (-1,8% and contributing -0,7 of a percentage point).

Food and beverages income at constant 2015 prices for the latest three months by type of enterprise

Total income decreased by 0,9% in the fourth quarter of 2017 compared with the fourth quarter of 2016. The main contributors to this decrease were:

  • restaurants and coffee shops (-1,0% and contributing -0,5 of a percentage point); and
  •  takeaway and fast-foods outlets (-1,2% and contributing -0,4 of a percentage point).

Seasonally adjusted food and beverages income decreased by 4,0% month-on-month in December 2017. The largest negative month-on-month growth rates were recorded for:

  • restaurants and coffee shops (-4,3%); and
  • takeaway and fast-food outlets (-4,2%).
