Measured in real terms (constant 2012 prices), total income generated by the food and beverages industry increased by 1,3% in October 2016 compared with October 2015. Food sales grew by 2,3%.

In October 2016, income of restaurants and coffee shops increased by 5,4% and contributed 2,2 percentage points.

Food and beverages income at constant 2012 prices for the latest three months by type of enterprise

Total income increased by 0,2% in the three months ended October 2016 compared with the three months ended October 2015. Positive contributors to this increase were:

  • takeaway and fast-food outlets (1,4% and contributing 0,6 of a percentage point); and
  • restaurants and coffee shops (0,4% and contributing 0,2 of a percentage point).

Seasonally adjusted food and beverages income showed no growth between September and October 2016. Income of restaurants and coffee shops increased by 3,9% while catering services and takeaway and fast-food outlets declined by 2,9% and 2,6% respectively.
