Measured in real terms (constant 2012 prices), total income generated by the food and beverages industry increased by 1,4% in January 2016 compared with January 2015.

Positive annual growth rates were recorded for bar sales (6,4%) and food sales (1,0%).

In January 2016, positive annual growth rates were recorded for restaurants and coffee shops (4,4% and contributing 2,0 percentage points) and catering services (2,4% and contributing 0,4 of a percentage point).

Food and beverages income at constant 2012 prices for the latest three months by type of enterprise

Total income increased by 2,3% in the three months ended January 2016 compared with the three months ended January 2015. Positive contributors to this increase were:

  • restaurants and coffee shops (4,4% and contributing 2,0 percentage points); and
  • takeaway and fast-food outlets (1,2% and contributing 0,5 of a percentage point).
