Year-on-year percentage change in food and beverages income at current prices by type of income

Measured in nominal terms (current prices), total income generated by the food and beverages industry increased by 5,2% in October 2013 compared with October 2012. Positive annual growth rates were recorded for ‘other’ income (45,8%) and food sales (4,9%) while bar sales remained unchanged over the same period.

In October 2013, the highest annual growth rates were recorded for takeaway and fast-food outlets (5,4% and contributing 2,0 percentage points) and restaurants and coffee shops (5,1% and contributing 2,3 percentage points).

Food and beverages income at current prices for the latest three months by type of enterprise

Total income increased by 5,8% in the three months ended October 2013 compared with the three months ended October 2012. The main contributors to this increase were:

  • takeaway and fast-food outlets (8,1% and contributing 2,9 percentage points); and
  • restaurants and coffee shops (4,9% and contributing 2,2 percentage points).
