The total income generated by the food and beverages industry for May 2011 was 0,4% higher than May 2010. The increase in food sales (1,0% and contributing 0,9 of a percentage point) was counteracted by a decrease in other income (-19,9% and contributing -0,5 of a percentage point).
 
The annual positive growth rate of 0,4% in total income for May 2011 was mainly driven by takeaway and fast-food outlets (4,0% and contributing 1,1 percentage points). This increase was to a large extent counteracted by the decrease recorded for caterers (-6,1% and contributing -1,0 percentage point).

The total income generated by the food and beverages industry for the three months ended May 2011 increased by 5,9% compared with the three months ended May 2010. The main contributor to this increase was food sales (6,7% and contributing 5,9 percentage points).

The year-on-year increase of 5,9% in total income for the three months ended May 2011 was driven by takeaway and fast-food outlets (12,7% and contributing 3,4 percentage points) and restaurants and coffee shops (5,3% and contributing 2,8 percentage points).
