Key findings: P6420 - Food and beverages, August 2009

The total income generated by the food and beverages industry for August 2009 decreased by -2,3% compared with August 2008. The decrease was due to decreases in income from food sales (-1,7% and contributing -1,5 percentage points) and income from bar sales (-7,9% and contributing -0,8 of a percentage point).
The main contributors to the decrease of -2,3% in total income for August 2009 compared with August 2008 were restaurants and coffee shops (-2,7% and contributing -1,5 percentage points), caterers (-8,2% and contributing -1,3 percentage points) and other catering services (-20,0% and contributing -1,0 percentage point). However, these decreases were partly counteracted by an increase in income by takeaway and fast-food outlets (6,7% and contributing 1,5 percentage points).
