Key findings: P6420 - Food and beverages, June 2007

The total income generated by the food and beverages industry in the second quarter of 2007 amounted to R6 336,5 million. This was an increase of 12,4% (R699,6 million) compared with the second quarter of 2006. The increase was due to an 11,2% (R537,2 million) increase in income from food sales, a 19,2% (R137,5 million) increase in income from bar sales and a 16,6% (R24,9 million) increase in other income. Total income in June 2007 increased by 12,2% (R233,0 million) compared to June 2006.

The largest percentage increase in total income for the second quarter of 2007 compared with the second quarter of 2006 was reported by caterers (22,2%), followed by take-away outlets (14,6%), other catering services (11,5%) and restaurants and coffee shops (7,8%).
