Key findings: P6410 - Tourist accommodation, October 2020

Measured in nominal terms (current prices), total income for the tourist accommodation industry decreased by 66,5% in October 2020 compared with October 2019.

 

Income from accommodation decreased by 66,6% year-on-year in October 2020, the result of a 55,1% decrease in the number of stay unit nights sold and a 25,7% decrease in the average income per stay unit night sold.

 

In October 2020, all accommodation types recorded large negative year-on-year growth in income from accommodation. The largest year-on-year decreases in income from accommodation were reported by:

  • hotels (-71,9% and contributing -45,3 percentage points); and

  • ‘other’ accommodation (-59,6% and contributing -19,5 percentage points).

 

Income from accommodation decreased by 73,8% in the three months ended October 2020 compared with the three months ended October 2019. The main contributors to this decrease were:

  • hotels (-78,6% and contributing -50,1 percentage points); and

  • ‘other’ accommodation (-65,8% and contributing -21,0 percentage points).

 

Seasonally adjusted income from accommodation increased by 19,1% month-on-month in October 2020 and by 55,2% month-on-month in September.
