Key findings: P6410 - Tourist accommodation, December 2019

Measured in nominal terms (current prices), total income for the tourist accommodation industry increased by 2,0% in 2019 compared with 2018. Income from accommodation increased by 1,8% over the same period.

In December 2019 total income for the tourist accommodation industry increased by 2,1% year-on-year.

Income from accommodation increased by 1,2% year-on-year in December 2019, mainly because of a 1,1% increase in the average income per stay unit night sold.

In December 2019, 'other' accommodation increased by 7,0% (contributing 2,1 percentage points) year-on-year. Hotels decreased by 1,6% (contributing -1,0 percentage point) over the same period.

Income from accommodation increased by 0,8% in the fourth quarter of 2019 compared with the fourth quarter of 2018. 'Other' accommodation increased by 10,4% (contributing 2,9 percentage points) while hotels decreased by 2,3% (contributing -1,5 percentage points) over this period.

Seasonally adjusted income from accommodation increased by 0,2% month-on-month in December 2019. Positive month-on-month growth rates were recorded for:

  • 'other' accommodation (2,5%); and
  • guest-houses and guest-farms (0,3%).
