Key findings: P6410 - Tourist accommodation, September 2019

Measured in nominal terms (current prices), total income for the tourist accommodation industry increased by 4,7% in September 2019 compared with September 2018.

 

Income from accommodation increased by 7,4% year-on-year in September 2019, the result of a 3,4% increase in the number of stay unit nights sold and a 3,9% increase in the average income per stay unit night sold.

 

In September 2019, the types of accommodation that recorded positive year-on-year growth in income from accommodation were:

  • ‘other’ accommodation (13,6%);

  • caravan parks and camping sites (7,6%); and

  • hotels (6,0%).

 

The main contributors to the 7,4% year-on-year increase in income from accommodation in September 2019 were:

  • hotels (contributing 4,0 percentage points); and

  • ‘other’ accommodation (contributing 3,9 percentage points).

 

Income from accommodation increased by 5,0% in the third quarter of 2019 compared with the third quarter of 2018. The main contributors to this increase were:

  • ‘other’ accommodation (9,9% and contributing 3,0 percentage points); and

  • hotels (3,4% and contributing 2,2 percentage points).

 

Seasonally adjusted income from accommodation increased by 2,3% month-on-month in September 2019. The largest month-on-month growth rates were recorded for:

  • ‘other’ accommodation (3,2%);

  • hotels (1,9%); and

  • caravan parks and camping sites (1,7%).
